Generative AI is systematically erasing “locality.” Prompts & Provenance critiques how datasets over-indexed in the global north appropriate natural-language to synthetically represent the reality of place. In the age of AI, we must stem misrepresentation in synthetic imagery, and provoke ethical tools that protect and celebrate the nuanced poetics of locality.
