A lot has been written and said about Venice. When you start digging deeper, you come into contact with an incredible world of beauty, of diverse realities, of problems, of critical issues. Seeing and trying to understand Venice as “foresti” (as the Venetians say), the dream is that it can continue to exist forever. But the more you go into specifics, the more critical issues create distance from this dream.
Venice Forever: From Reality to Imagination develops from a reading of the present to imagine a projection into the future. It is based on idea that Venice creates conditions to integrate a new community of young people into the existing fabric, who have the social, cultural, economic, and technological skills, and who can settle down and start a family here.
Even if there may be missed opportunities or inconsistencies, we cannot allow wonder to vanish without doing everything we can to prevent cynicism, apathy, and distraction from taking over.
Venice Forever is told through data, images and narratives. The installation is comprised of six video monoliths, a golden dome “frescoed” inside, and a long beam with video interviews.
