Japan faces a growing crisis of Akiya (空き家, or abandoned houses), which is projected to reach a third of all homes by 2033. Many of these are Kominka (folk houses), which if not abandoned, are often demolished. With a unique vision and approach to renovation, Akiya (空き家): The Kazunori Case seeks to preserve these forgotten vernacular treasures while revitalising depopulated rural areas on the Chiba peninsula.
