The Dunes: Resilient Communities is a bold model for coastal resiliency. Through local stewardship, government investment, public-private partnerships, and innovative design, the Rockaways have adapted and thrived. It highlights a rebuilt boardwalk, a multifunctional community centre, and resident-led dune restoration—strengthening flood protection and vitality in one of New York City’s key coastal neighbourhoods.
