Description
Generative AI is a rapidly evolving technology. We may eventually reach a point where its intelligence surpasses that of humans—the singularity. This prospect is both exciting and unsettling. In response, we believe it is necessary to reconsider our perception and update our understanding of intelligence. As part of this effort, we propose the concept of the “in-between”. The Japanese concept of ma assigns subjecthood to the tension between two entities. It suggests that the subject exists not in the human or the external world but in a third dimension—the dialogue between them. The in-between does not distinguish between humans, non-humans, nature, and man-made objects; rather, it represents a new nature of intelligence that emerges in the space between. Through a dialogue about the future between humans and architecture, the Japan Pavilion seeks to explore this new kind of intelligence.
