Dream Stream
ALBUM
description
The title Dream Stream originates from the Eastern wisdom of “investigating underlying principles through the observation of phenomena” and “the unity of heaven and humanity”, which are embodied in the Dream Stream Essays by Shen Kuo of the Northern Song dynasty. This book records reflections on the humanities, arts, science and technology, and was praised by the British historian of science Joseph Needham as “a milestone in the history of Chinese science”. In Chinese oracle-bone script, the character yi (艺, art) depicts a half-kneeling human figure planting grain, embodying reverence for the land and conveying respect towards artistic practice. In ancient Greece, the goddess Athena is endowed with eyes likened to those of an owl: luminous and penetrating, capable of seeing through darkness and discerning light.
In the present era technology is reshaping the world with unprecedented power. This shift does not overturn tradition; rather, it grows from cultural roots, extends them and opens pathways toward a spiritual cosmos.
How to renew tradition through innovation, and how to integrate art with science and technology, is the wager of this exhibition.
