description

Equatorial Guinea brings its forest to Venice, marking its first participation in the Biennale. The archetype of the forest and its undergrowth, mysterious and unexplored, symbolises the unconscious: the unknown and mysterious part of the mind where everything of which human beings are unaware resides, but also the locus of dialogue between the visible and the invisible. The forest is a place of inspiration for Fernando Nguema, Modest Gené and the invited artists. The forest is a sacred place where the individual is invited to spiritual growth.

Forest is a tribute to that subtle and invisible bond between humanity and nature, between the body and the entire cosmos. It is a place of wisdom where it is possible to learn and rediscover oneself. The guest artists Bruchstein, Cammarata, Codre, Du, Esnayra, Flora, Forconi, González, Merolli, Milot, Moreno, Oumarou, Pérez, Roggi, Ros, Palosuo, Sanna, Seall, Stanzione, Youju, Vassiliades and Zanghi reveal the forest, the invisible side of the visible and its undergrowth. The artists’ dialogue identifies the forest as a mystical space: a boundary between nature and culture, between what is controlled and what escapes human order – a sensorial experience that engages the viewer, inviting them to “inhabit” the work.
