Il Cinema in Mostra

Volti e Immagini dalla Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica 1932-2018

The exhibition

For the 75th Venice International Film Festival, at the Hotel Des Bains on the Lido, La Biennale di Venezia will organize – with the collaboration of COIMA SGR, and on behalf of the Fondo Lido di Venezia II – an exhibition on the history of the Venice Film Festival, with material from the Historic Archives of the Biennale, titled Il Cinema in Mostra. Volti e immagini dalla Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica 1932 – 2018.

The exhibition, which will be held concurrently with the 75th Venice International Film Festival (29 August – 8 September 2018), will be curated by the director of the Cinema Department of the Biennale, Alberto Barbera.

"Once again, in the spirit of the programme we launched in 2010 – stated the President of the Biennale, Paolo Baratta –, we are systematically working to bring new life to the historic buildings of the Lido, to support its renascence".

Il Cinema in Mostra is part of the programme of exhibitions that La Biennale has organized since 2009, curated by the artistic directors of the various Departments, to advance and promote the material from the Historic Archives and to highlight significant periods and episodes in its history.
The exhibition at the Hotel Des Bains will include photos, video and film clips, documents and materials, most of which have never been shown before, spanning the history of the Venice International Film Festival, the oldest film festival in the world, founded in 1932 on the Lido di Venezia as an extension of the Biennale Arte and inspired by its model.

The collaboration of COIMA SGR

Manfredi Catella, Founder and CEO of COIMA, explains: "The symbolic re-opening of the Des Bains is a response to the Biennale's intent to reclaim one of its identity-defining locations, and to the desire of citizens and institutions to see an essential part of their territory revitalized. The temporary re-opening of the Des Bains and the works to enhance the Hotel Excelsior and its beaches, which COIMA is currently undertaking, are the concrete signs of the renascence of the Lido di Venezia".

COIMA is a leading platform for investment, development and management of real-estate assets for international and domestic institutional investors.
COIMA SGR, an Investment & Asset Management firm, manages 22 real-estate investment funds with over 5 billion euro of investments. Its portfolio counts over 150 properties, including 30 LEED Gold and Platinum-certified buildings.
