Synopsis

After a failed performance, Luka, a young stand-up comedian, meets a mysterious girl in a bar. They quickly find common ground and she spends the night at his place. They talk about their loneliness, pain and personal losses, all while trying to maintain an emotional distance from one another. But when all the necessary words finally run out – silence falls.

Director’s Statement

Silence is a story about people living during the war in Ukraine – and about the strong human instinct to continue living anyway.
Luka believes survival depends on being heard. On stage, silence feels like failure. But over the course of one night, he meets a woman who understands silence differently. For her, silence is protection. Strategy. Survival. The mysterious girl represents thousands of women in Ukraine today. Tonight she spends the night with a man she barely knows. Tomorrow she leaves for the front. She simply continues her life – which now includes war. The film explores her inner beauty and uncompromising strength through Luka’s perspective.
Silence is not about heroism. It is about proximity – to danger, to desire, to mortality – and about the quiet dignity of those who choose to live fully, even when tomorrow is uncertain.
