Il senso della Terra

A doctor examines the body of a migrant who died at sea. During the inspection, she finds a plastic bag containing a peculiar substance that mysteriously makes her relive the boy’s migratory journey.

Before setting out on a long and dangerous journey, a young man decides to take with him a handful of earth from his homeland. This simple gesture conveys more words than could ever be contained in dozens of books. In that handful of earth lies the imprint of a history as old as humanity itself: the history of migration. It is a story made up of countless individual stories, all too often lost in the coldness of numbers and statistics. Preserving the memory of those lives means giving them back a name and bearing witness to the fact that they once walked this earth. This is the first step towards breaking free from stereotypes, standing up to indifference and recognising the complexity of the human experience.
