Synopsis
At dawn in western Hungary, 14-year-old Hunor and his family bring their greyhound dogs to clear wildlife from ZalaZone, one of Europe’s most advanced autonomous vehicle test tracks. Their ancient knowledge makes way for a militarising future.
Director’s Statement
When I first visited Zala County, I was struck by a surreal juxtaposition: a state-of-the- art test track rising out of an agricultural landscape. Driverless cars, autonomous tractors and military vehicles occupied the same horizon as family farms that had been worked for generations. At first the image felt unique to Hungary, a country shaped by decades of economic transition and now entering a new political chapter. But as I continued to learn about the region alongside an all-Hungarian crew, the story revealed itself to be something much broader.
Tesztpálya is born from an interest in how ordinary people adapt to the forces that are quietly reshaping our world. Rather than framing technology as inherently hopeful or threatening, I invite the audience to reflect on how rural communities navigate profound economic and cultural change, and what values endure in spite of sweeping transformation.
