director's statement
Published by Oxford University Press in 2012, Intermission has been adapted by auteur Yonfan into a 225-minute cinematic experience. The film chronicles his journey from his 1964 awakening to music and literature, through his acclaimed photography career in the 1970s, to his debut as a film auteur in the 1980s.
Exploring themes of art, history, aesthetics, and mortality, this immersive experimental piece captures sixty years of cultural evolution. Neither strictly realistic nor entirely surreal, the film gently unfolds like a dreamlike apparition, creating a mesmerising milestone unseen in cinema history.
