synopsis
Peccato is a six-part comedy mockumentary, with episodes of around 25 minutes, set in the near future. An irreverent “what if” that looks back on the tumultuous life and career of Emanuela Fanelli.
It’s 2049. Emanuela Fanelli, now sixty-three, lives in seclusion in a remote village in the Aosta Valley. She no longer acts, and she has long since stopped giving interviews or posing for the celebrity magazines. Then again, they stopped looking for her a long time ago, too: after years away from the public eye, her name has faded into oblivion. But why? What scandal drove her into retirement?
Director’s Statement
From the very moment we began writing this story, it seemed inevitable to us that it should take the daring form of a mockumentary, the only one capable of bringing its irreverence fully to the fore. Throughout the six episodes, different styles, languages, eras and distant worlds alternate, held together by the ambition to make the viewer laugh, disorient them and occasionally instil a doubt as to the authenticity of the story. The story is that of an actress on the decline, overwhelmed by obsessions and resentments, but endowed with an unexpected dignity.
