The death of Bob Wilson

The President, the General Manager and the Head of the Historic Archive, the Board of Directors and La Biennale di Venezia in its entirety wish to express their sorrow for the passing of the great theatre director, author and total artist Bob Wilson, a true master and brilliant creator, the recipient of the Golden Lion for sculpture at the Biennale Arte 1993.

Starting in the 1970s, Bob Wilson participated in numerous editions of La Biennale di Venezia across its various Artistic Departments (Biennale Arte, Biennale Musica, Biennale Teatro, Biennale Cinema), consistently expressing his extraordinary innovative and multidisciplinary talent. He will forever be remembered as the author of the revolutionary opera Einstein on the Beach, with music composed by Philip Glass, a work that has become legend, performed among others by Lucinda Childs, and produced at Biennale Teatro e Musica in 1976 directed by Luca Ronconi.
