Biennale College

The Biennale di Venezia has consolidated its mission in all its departments. In addition to its work to promote knowledge among the general public (Exhibitions and Festivals) it has introduced a strategic programme dedicated to young artists. Known as the Biennale College, this programme is underway in the fields of Dance, Theatre, Music and Cinema. To encourage young talents by offering them the opportunity to work side by side with the Masters to develop “creations”. This is the spirit of the Biennale College, a well-appointed bridge that allows young people who wish to engage in one of the arts to do so under the finest conditions that an international institution can offer.

Biennale College Teatro

The Theatre Department will involve all those whom the artistic Director, Antonio Latella, at his own discretion and in agreement with the Masters conducting the individual workshops in the programme, believes will respond to the goals of each of the workshops described below and the requirements detailed in each of them, an integral part of his artistic project for the year 2017.

The project for the Biennale College – Theatre, coherently with the spirit of the most recent editions, stands as a place of inquiry and dialogue, a space permanently open to discussion and experimentation, in a process that can involve scholars, spectators and theatre lovers. A true factory of ideas that explores the potential of theatre: languages, codes, techniques and technology, the sciences of the stage all provide the guidelines for a systematic evaluation, led by Masters and experts from around the world.

The current edition of the Biennale College – Theatre will include a significant number of days dedicated to working with the chosen Masters, with the purpose of offering each participant the possibility of taking part in an authentic creative process, on the one hand, and on the other, to enhance the educational function of each workshop, a place of both ideation and higher education. The meeting with the Masters involved will be preceded by a work session that will involve the totality of the participants in the various workshops, to be led by the Director Antonio Latella and scheduled to take place from July 26th to 30th.

Furthermore in this edition, each Master and each participant in the College will address the same theme, detailed by the Director, and will later present the result of each workshop in a short theatre piece at the end. Each of these original creations will be presented together with the others in a sort of theatre marathon, to take place on the last days of the Festival.

The workshops are intended exclusively for applicants who have had at least one experience under contract.
