Director Emma Dante, Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of Biennale Teatro 2026, talks about her plays in the seventh episode of the Podcast La Biennale on Air, dedicated entirely to the voices of women. The new episode also features an excerpt from a Laurie Anderson performance at Biennale Arte 2011, and two contributions by Sarah Davachi, Silver Lion Biennale Musica 2026 and Mamela Nyamza, Silver Lion Biennale Danza 2026. The episode concludes with a focus on the film The Testament of Ann Lee, which premiered at Venezia 82, with interventions by Mona Fastvold and Amanda Seyfried from the film’s conference. This is a preview of the full interview published in issue 1/26 of La Biennale di Venezia Magazine, soon to be released. In this excerpt, the director from Palermo offers considerations about language, the body and the figure of woman in theatre and society, making reference to her famous work La scortecata (2017) and her new play L’angelo del focolare (2025).
As a preview to the themes of the coming 61st International Art Exhibition, In Minor Keys by Koyo Kouoh (9 May – 22 November 2026), the episode provides an opportunity to listen to an excerpt by the artist and composer Laurie Anderson, who will be participating in Biennale Arte 2026, from the Historical Archive of La Biennale. It is a segment from A Short Talk on Places, a lecture-performance she presented during the Meetings on Art at Biennale Arte 2011, in keeping with the themes of the imminent Exhibition by Koyo Kouoh.
The episode is enriched by two exceptional interventions. The first by the South African choreographer and dancer Mamela Nyamza, Silver Lion of Biennale Danza 2026. The second is by the Canadian composer and organist Sarah Davachi, Silver Lion of Biennale Musica 2026. The episode concludes with two audio excerpts by the Norwegian filmmaker Mona Fastvold and American actress Amanda Seyfried from the conference for their film The Testament of Ann Lee, in competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and now in theatres.
