sixth episode of the Podcast La Biennale on Air
A Paralympic athlete and two Olympic athletes talk about their experience at the 17th International Kids’ Carnival of La Biennale di Venezia with the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, in the sixth episode of the Podcast La Biennale on Air. The new episode also features a tribute to Man Ray, the protagonist of the exhibition by the Historical Archive Man Ray, l’immgine ritrovata. The Podcast created by La Biennale is available for listening on the major platforms (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music – Audible and YouTube) and on La Biennale’s website (La Biennale on Air).
The new episode of La Biennale on Air goes behind the scenes of the 17th International Kids’ Carnival, where Milano Cortina 2026 met La Biennale di Venezia. The Olympic Museum of Lausanne brought three Olympian Artists to Venice: the Paralympic athlete Simone Barlaam and the two Olympic athletes Slaven Dizdarević and Zeina Rashid, who combine their athletic careers with a recognized artistic practice within the museum’s programme of that name. The three athletes talk about the workshops they led for families and schools, in which painting, drawing and movement became tools to reflect upon dreams, commitment and the courage to put one’s self to the test.
The episode features an in-depth look at the exhibition Man Ray, l’immgine ritrovata, organized by the Historical Archive of Contemporary Arts and set up in the spaces of Ca’ Giustinian through November 22. On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Man Ray’s death, the entire original photographic corpus of the historic exhibition—curated by Janus and produced for the 1976 Art Biennale on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore—is presented here once again. The tribute to the great artist and photographer in enriched by the contribution by Denis Brotto, Associate Professor at the University of Padua, who reviews Ray’s work in film between silent movies and Dadaist experimentation, focusing on two films, Entr’acte (1924) by René Clair and Le retour à la raison (1923), directed by Man Ray himself, which have been shown on several occasions at the Venice International Film Festival.
The episode is further enriched by a contribution by choreographer Carolyn Carlson, who was the Artistic Director of Biennale Danza from 1999 to 2002 and the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2006, and has contributed to issue 1/24 of La Biennale di Venezia Magazine with a lengthy reflection on the sacred value of water. The episode concludes with three recommendations for films on the theme of Valentine’s Day: three romantic films that premiered over the years at the Venice International Film Festival, three unusual love stories that marked a watershed moment in the genre, accompanied by original audio excerpts by Ang Lee and Tony Leng Chiu-wai.
The Podcast La Biennale on Air is released monthly in the form of audio episodes in English and offers access to all the Departments of La Biennale, sharing the content of the Exhibitions, Festivals, Special Projects and collections of the Historical Archive with contributions recorded by the Artistic Directors, artists, filmmakers, performers and other figures from the world of culture.
