Two new international calls for Biennale College Dance

Dancers and choreographers may submit their applications until 16 and 23 January 2019, respectively.

Biennale College – Dance 2019

La Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, announces the new edition of the Biennale College – Dance with two international calls dedicated to young dancers and to new choreographers, as set forth in the project by Director Marie Chouinard.

Starting Tuesday November 20th 2018 the calls are on the website and will remain open as follows:
- the call for dancers through January 16th 2019
- the call for choreographers through January 23rd 2019

The Dancer Project

A selection will be made of up to 15 dancers between the ages of 18 and 25.
For 3 months (1 April > 30 June 2019) the selected dancers will work in Venice on an intensive programme that encompasses sessions dedicated to the awareness of the body or somatic approach, contemporary techniques, experimentation with movement and interpretation, with particular reference to the repertory of Trisha Brown.
The experience of the 15 dancers will end with the presentation of two works in a single event within the 13th International Festival of Contemporary Dance: a new creation conceived specifically for them by Alessandro Sciarroni and Set and Reset/Reset developed under the guidance of the performers from the Trisha Brown Dance Company for whom the work was originally conceived.

The training dedicated to the awareness of the body or somatic approach, will be undertaken with renowned experts such as Judith Koltai (Authentic Movement), Gaby Agis (Skinner Realeasing Technique), Shelley Senter (Alexander Technique), Linda Rabin (Continuum), Ami Shulman (Feldenkrais), TIka Bowrin (Postural Pilates, Yoga, Somatic and Meditative Training).
Some of the dancers from the Trisha Brown Dance Company will become the teachers for the 15 dancers in contemporary technique, experimentation with movement and interpretation.

The Choreographer Project

There will be a selection of up to 3 choreographers between the ages of 18 and 32 who will each develop their own original free creation approximately 20 minutes long. The 3 creations will be presented at a single event during the 13th International Festival of Contemporary Dance.
The selected choreographers will be in residence in Venice from May 14th to June 30th and following an initial preliminary phase, dedicated this year to the analysis of Trisha Brown's conceptual and composition mechanism, understood as a starting point for their personal research, they will work for 6 consecutive weeks with 7 professional dancers selected for this purpose.

In the various phases of research and development of the 3 original creations, the choreographers will have the opportunity to work with experts: Marc Crousillat for the Trisha Brown method, Guy Cools for dramaturgy, Catherine Schaub Abkarian in the role of "independent eye", Simone Derai for stage direction and set design.
