Description
Amidst the ongoing climate crisis, Picoplanktonics upends the architectural legacy of a human-centred built environment to collectively imagine a radically transformed future using ecology-first design practices. At the heart of the exhibition is a series of large-scale, robotically printed structures embedded with Synechococcus PCC 7002, a species of picoplankton that gradually strengthens the material by absorbing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide. Initially fabricated in a laboratory, these structures have been relocated to the Canada pavilion, which has been adapted to host them to grow and thrive.
