Epidermitecture challenges conventional notions of cleanliness and maintenance by exploring naturally occurring stains—thin layers of microorganisms (biopatinas) on the outside of buildings that filter air pollutants, reduce heat islands, and support biodiversity. Participatory practice and geomicrobiology was used to explore their sustainable potential and advocate for biopatinas as integral to our cities.
