synopsis

José and María move through an immense, gray, and modern city. They know they belong to very different social classes, yet they will try to sustain their love even when everything seems to separate them: their families, their friends, their youth, and the limited opportunities in a country always under complicated political and economic tensions. Table 10 at a downtown café and the waiter who greets them almost daily seem to be the only space where they feel safe.

critical note

As for Simón Feldman, I would say that with this film he embarked on the path of active testimony, forgetting — at times — the satirical play of his previous film, El negoción. The film is crafted with dignity and skill, with a constant vibration and communion with its characters. An occasional passing observation is all the director needs to point out a problem, accentuate a scene, or place a character. The skillful direction of the performers [...], the overall organization of the film, the ingenious resolution of many scenes, and the dramatic and visual unity of Los de la mesa 10 place us before an increasingly mature craftsman-director, a fine storyteller, and a valuable cinematic stance on society.
