The actress and director Greta Scarano with actor Nicolas Maupas will host the opening and closing nights of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia (2 – 12 September 2026).
Greta Scarano with Nicolas Maupas will present the inauguration ceremony of the 83rd Venice Film Festival on the stage of Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido) on the evening of Wednesday 2 September, as well as the closing ceremony on Saturday 12 September, when the Lions and other official prizes of the 83rd Venice Film Festival will be announced.
Greta Scarano
She trained in Italy and the United States and made her television debut in 2007. She came to the attention of the wider public in hit series such as Criminal Novel (Romanzo criminale), Squadra antimafia, In Treatment, The Name of the Rose, Circeo and La linea verticale for which she was awarded the Premio Flaiano.
She made her film debut in Scattered Cloud (Qualche nuvola) and broke through with Without Pity (Senza nessuna pietà), which won her the Biraghi Prize at the Nastri d’Argento. For Suburra she won the Nastro d’Argento for Best Supporting Actress and the Ciak d’Oro as the Revelation of the Year. In the course of her career, she has worked with directors such as Ferzan Ozpetek, Paolo Genovese and Sydney Sibilia.
In 2023 she made her debut as a filmmaker with the short film Feliz Navidad, which premiered in the official selection of the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Corto d’Argento as Best Debut Short Film Director.
In 2025 she made her first feature-length film Siblings (La vita da grandi), which won the Nastro d’Argento for Best Debut Film and the European Young Audience Award at the European Film Awards 2026, in addition to many Italian and international acknowledgments.
In 2026 she again starred as an actress in the film Piccolo miracolo by Guido Chiesa, in a performance that won her the Best Actress award at the Taormina Film Festival, assigned by a jury chaired by Jane Campion.
Nicolas Maupas
A French-Italian actor born in Milan, he made his debut in 2020 in the role of Filippo Ferrari, one of the lead characters in the first season of The Sea Beyond (Mare Fuori).
The success of the project quickly brought him to the attention of the wider public, making him one of the most promising up-and-coming young actors on the Italian audiovisual scene.
In 2021 he was cast in the series Nudes and that same year became one of the lead characters in A Professor (Un professore), a highly acclaimed series in which he played Simone Balestra.
In 2022 he made his film debut in The Beautiful Summer (La bella estate), directed by Laura Luchetti and continued his artistic journey with a range of projects that included Sotto il sole di Amalfi, Survivors (Sopravvissuti) and Noi siamo Leggenda.
Between 2023 and 2025 he was cast in the role of Albert de Morcerf for the international production The Count of Montecristo directed by the Academy Award-winning director Bille August, which premiered at the Rome Film Fest, and played the part of Guglielmo Marconi in the miniseries about the life of the famous inventor, Marconi – L’uomo che ha connesso il mondo.
In 2025 he made his debut as a film star in L’amore, in teoria, directed by Luca Lucini, and in addition to returning to Rai 1 for Season three of A Professor, he was cast in Season three of Call My Agent – Italia.
He has received many acknowledgments over the course of his career, including the Next Generation Award at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, the Premio Guglielmo Biraghi at the Nastri d’Argento, the Ciak d’Oro as Face of the Year and the Explosive Talent Award at the 55th Giffoni Film Festival, confirming his talent and rapid rise within the Italian audiovisual landscape.
In April 2026 he was among the stars of the film Alla festa della rivoluzione directed by Arnaldo Catinari, further confirming an artistic career consistently on the rise between cinema, television and theatre.
