| Note: | “Liminal Nightmares” is the second world by Autumn Boyd in a series of liminal spaces. The first project was titled “Liminal Dreams” and focused on bright nostalgic pools. This entry is darker, focusing on more abstract areas and allowing more freedom. The world features small items to collect, adding a game play element that encourages players to explore. According to Autumn Boyd, liminality is to be in a state of transition, like passing through a hallway or an empty hotel. The horror of a silent night walking through a hotel is the juxtaposition of feeling that you’re alone and safe and yet still something might be waiting for you around the corner. The same feeling is found running through a dark hallway after turning off the lights. These shared human experiences are core to the project and relies on curiosity overcoming fear. There’s nothing in the dark, it’s just your imagination. |
