The sixth chapter in the history of the Venice International Film Festival, reconstructed through Rai’s chronicles by Rai Cultura and Rai Teche, explores the years 2001–2012: the opening decade of the 21st century, between globalisation and new cinematic languages.
It spans the final year of Alberto Barbera’s first term, the late Moritz de Hadeln’s two years as director, Marco Müller’s eight-year tenure, and the beginning of Barbera’s second term. Through programmes such as Blob, Stracult, Cinematografo and Off Hollywood, as well as the new thematic channels Rai News 24 and Raisat Cinema (later Rai Movie), Rai documented the Venetian festival in a style that echoed the emerging “reality show” format. A journey through the authors and stars who, year after year, gather at the Lido for the oldest and most prestigious international film festival.
