Location of the exhibition space: the Fondazione Querini Stampalia is one of Venice’s oldest and most prestigious cultural institutions. Established in 1869, it has embodied for over 150 years the vision of its founder, Count Giovanni, an audacious and forward-thinking pioneer. Located in the heart of the city, the Fondazione is a vibrant crossroads where past and present meet: from its priceless art collections to its historic library, and the spaces reimagined by some of the masters of contemporary architecture. Palazzo Querini Stampalia, spanning 7,500 m², includes a library, a 132-seat auditorium, and a garden, and can host temporary exhibitions, institutional and private events, conferences, film screenings, and theatrical performances.
Exhibition Space
A 420 m² white cube on the third floor of the Palazzo. Spacious, functional, and versatile, it offers abundant natural light and can be adapted to a wide range of display solutions. Ideal for temporary exhibitions requiring generous floor space, it can accommodate large-scale works and installations.
Carlo Scarpa Area
Designed by Carlo Scarpa in the 1960s, this distinctive space combines a 140 m² garden with 260 m² of interior rooms. At its heart is the Sala Luzzatto, seating up to 100 guests, ideal for photography and art exhibitions. A refined setting also suited to photo shoots, ceremonies, and exclusive events.
Theater
Designed by Mario Botta, the 140 m² auditorium hosts meetings, conferences, presentations, concerts, performances, and film screenings. It seats 132, with capacity expandable by linking to the adjacent room via closed-circuit connection. Excellent acoustics make it equally suitable for audio recording. Services on request include technical support, hostess service, and secure cloakroom.
Museum Portego
The historic heart of the Querini residence, this grand reception hall on the piano nobile retains its period atmosphere, with original frescoes and stucco, Venetian terrazzo floors, and antique furnishings that speak of its aristocratic tradition of hospitality. Ideal for exclusive gala dinners, receptions, cocktails, and institutional gatherings, it offers a setting of rare elegance.
Library Portego
An 88 m² space on the first floor, adjacent to the Library and exuding 19th-century charm. With independent access via Carlo Scarpa’s staircase and part of the museum route, it is a flexible and functional venue for temporary exhibitions and installations.
Carlo Scarpa Garden
Designed by Carlo Scarpa, this 140 m² garden harmoniously blends architecture and nature. It is ideal for receptions, cocktails, lunches, and dinners—buffet or plated—and can host up to 150 guests.
Giuseppe Mazzariol Court
An 85 m² covered courtyard on the ground floor, conceived as a space for welcome and social interaction. It can host temporary exhibitions or be set up for coffee breaks, buffet lunches, and cocktails for up to 150 guests. Connected to the Auditorium, it is also ideal as a guest reception area.
Hall Purposes
A 70 m² ground-floor room, bright and adaptable, with flexible layouts (theater, classroom, or boardroom). Accommodating up to 50 people, it is equipped with a monitor for mobile devices and laptops, plus a collaboration soundbar. Can be linked via closed-circuit connection to the Auditorium.
Small White Cube
A 43 m² room designed for exhibitions and installations, with essential lines and abundant natural light. Opening onto a charming open courtyard, it offers an intimate and versatile setting. Complete with cloakroom and restroom, it combines practicality with comfort for a range of events.
Riva Botta
A 33 m² ground-floor space redesigned by Mario Botta. Bright and overlooking the canal, it is directly connected to the Carlo Scarpa Area. Perfect for small temporary exhibitions or screenings.
Botta Staircase
At the Palazzo’s entrance, this Mario Botta–designed space combines architectural elegance with urban energy. Light from the skylight and the interplay of volumes create a unique setting, ideal for site-specific installations.
How to get there / Transport of the works of art: located in Campo Santa Maria Formosa, just minutes from St Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge, the Palazzo is within easy walking distance of the vaporetto stops at Rialto and San Marco – San Zaccaria. For the transport of artworks, the Fondazione offers a mooring on the canal and three water gates. Access to the Palazzo is possible from Campiello Querini, via one lift, or from Campo Santa Maria Formosa, via two lifts.
Facilities: the Fondazione offers spaces and services for temporary exhibitions, conferences, congresses, workshops, concerts, performances, cocktails, and gala dinners. It includes a café and a bookshop. During opening hours, a reception and security service welcomes and assists visitors. The Palazzo is equipped with fire and intrusion prevention systems, and provides qualified on-site security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
