GUIDED TOURS
from 30.09 to 23.11
Venues: Giardini della Biennale and/or Arsenale

The guided tours include an introduction to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective, a visit to the Installations of the main Exhibition combined with a selection of National Participations in the Giardini and/or a tour of the Corderie and Artiglierie of the Arsenale that includes a short introduction to the National Participations. Reservations may be made with the request for a customised experience to include lectures or focused thematic explorations. The activity will last a total of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

 

From 11 - 25 October, during the 69th International Festival of Contemporary Music, the reservation for a guided tour may be combined with attendance at one of the concerts in the programme, selecting the option Guided tour + Music concert.
A Lecture may also be added by selecting the option Lecture.

HISTORICAL TOURS
from 30 September to 23 November
Venues: Giardini della Biennale and/or Arsenale

The historical tours concentrate on La Biennale di Venezia’s exhibition venues from a historical and architectural point of view. The Giardini della Biennale are explored as an open-air museum of contemporary architecture, featuring masterpieces of exhibition architecture by the masters of Modernism and Post-modernism. The tour of the Arsenale reconstructs its importance to the Most Serene Republic and its internal organisation, highlighting its most significant buildings, some of which are extraordinary examples of industrial architecture.

Thematic focuses

Guided tours of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition viewed from perspectives of particular educational significance.

They include an introduction to the International Exhibition, a discussion of the most significants projects relevant to the selected theme and a conversation at the end to discuss the insights acquired during the tour. They are particularly recommended for lower and upper secondary schools.

Venue: Arsenale

  1. The intelligence of life

A thematic tour that asks what contemporary humanity can learn from the forms of adaptation and coexistence developed by non-human life forms such as trees, plants, microbes and animals. A reflection upon the silent intelligence of life and how different it is from the discoursive intelligence of humans.

  1. The architecture of machines

A thematic tour that explores the frontiers of artificial intelligence and its importance in redefining concepts such as personhood, home, space, city and nature. The tour focuses in particular on the technical dimension of artificial intelligence, as a means to obtain specific ends, and its social and political dimension as the element within which to rethink what it means to be human and what defines humanity.

  1. The knowledge of peoples

A thematic tour dedicated to the importance to architecture and dwelling of traditions, practices, customs and all forms of behaviour that have been handed down informally, by imitation or by direct example. A reflection on the role that inherited solutions can still play in an era of rapid and radical change.

  1. Intelligens// Intelligent

A thematic tour that combines a visit to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective with the presentation of one of the major installations of “Intelligent Venice – The Oldest City of the Future”, a tribute to the ingenuity and capacity for innovation of the city of Venice. An immersive journey through the urban transformations on display at the Exhibition which leads into the history of the city on the lagoon, the only city of its kind in the world, memory of the past yet projected into the future through innovation.

 

Venue: Giardini 

  1. A Garden of Time

A thematic tour dedicated to the Giardini della Biennale as a place that reflects and mirrors the history of the past two centuries, since the fall of the Most Serene Republic of Venice to the economic and cultural rise of the Persian Gulf. The national pavilions become the opportunity to review certain critical episodes and moments that have served to define our present time.
