Ecuadorian floating houses have been recognised as national architectural heritage, but their numbers have decreased from 250 to 25. Floating Ecosystems features proposals for new floating structures, including fishermen’s shelters and community centres, which led to the development of public policies for the care of the river ecosystem, as well as the construction of the first sustainable floating neighbourhood in Latin America.
