Saint Simeon

Synopsis
In 1997 Enugu, Nigeria. Young seminarian Matthias finds himself torn between feelings of guilt and carnal desires as he navigates the realities of a repressed environment in the wake of the passing of his roommate Simeon, and his controversial suicide.
Director’s Statement
This film is a product of curiosity, empathy and interrogations into a culture of shame and silence. What does it mean for young people to devote themselves to system with its own internal contradictions? And how much room do young people going through crisis have to express their discomfort? Subsequently, what is the role of their communities in the face of this? Saint Simeon attempts to intervene in intramural violence, neglect and our collective hesitation to attend to the most marginalised of us.
