Flashing Warning

This project is a virtual world where the player floats inside anabandoned elevator shaft surrounded by CRT monitors. The entrance draws from old Hong Kong computer centers, once a bustling hub now fading due to the decline in economy and rise of online shopping. The storefronts are shuttered, plastered with estate ads and posters. As the player walks down the hallway, it warps and dissolves into a surreal space that blends the real and the virtual. It leads to the abandoned elevator chamber, an impossible space that can only exist digitally.
xlxxl’s work often reflects a sense of mourning for familiar places and a desire to preserve fragments of them in virtual form. Yet, these memories are inevitably transformed, twisted through the lens of imagination.
