synopsis

Wayne McGregor: On the Other Earth, the world’s first post-cinematic choreographic installation, refracts, evolves and reimagines dance performance in a startlingly original new form of experience. Set within Jeffrey Shaw and Sarah Kenderdine’s radically immersive, panoramic, 360-degree stereoscopic, 12k LED, 26-million-pixel nVis screen, 3D imagery is experienced within an enveloping, largescale cylindrical architecture of eight metres wide and four metres tall. Combining dance, choreography, digital imaging, spatialised sound, and AI, it redefines how we think about movement, the body, and performance.
Visitors are invited into the heart of the dance, connecting in close contact with hyperreal dancers in a physicalised sound environment. Never encountered in the same way twice, participants will experience Wayne McGregor: On the Other Earth’s visual and sonic landscapes unfolding before them in a series of thought-provoking otherworldly encounters and intimate interplay, upending our perceptions of performance and the future of entertainment.

main creators' statement

The project is a dance performance unlike any other. By exploring innovative forms of choreography, performance, physicalised sound, mixed reality immersive visualisation, and intelligent interaction between human and machine agents it breaks new ground conceptually, aesthetically, and operatively.
Enhancing the potential of choreographic and cinematic storytelling, virtual representations of physical presence, combined with visceral AI sound, coalesce with human agency and machine learning. In this hybrid performative ecology, narrativity, interactivity, and engagement are mutually transformed, creating a new domain of mediated and embodied experience.
