Description

To love flamenco, to feel it, to vibrate to its compás is for the many. To understand it deeply, to truly know it is for the few. This is a world of oral, folk, street culture, immense, its impact strong and direct, but it takes a lifetime to fully appreciate its nuances, to respect it and perhaps even personalize it, crossing boundaries and styles, as Israel Galván does.
The genres and rhythms – the palos – in flamenco are almost infinite. Galván, who learned from his parents, knows how to play around with it, donning masculine as well as feminine gestures with a freedom and ease that are utterly contemporary, without ever disregarding the greatness of the tradition.
