William Basinski is a classically trained musician and composer whose work in experimental media spans over three decades. Working primarily with analogue tape loops and obsolete technologies, Basinski crafts haunting soundscapes that explore the fragility of time, memory and decay. His landmark work The Disintegration Loops, a four-disc meditation on gradual sonic disintegration, received widespread critical acclaim, including Pitchfork’s 50 Best Albums of 2004 and a perfect score for its 2012 deluxe reissue. In collaboration with artist/film-maker James Elaine, Basinski has presented installations and films internationally, while his live performances regularly sell out major venues worldwide.
