The acquisition of the Lucia Ronchetti Archive
La Biennale di Venezia announces the acquisition of the Lucia Ronchetti Archive, consisting of an archive and a personal library, which will become part of the Historical Archive – International Research Centre for Contemporary Arts.
Lucia Ronchetti is an internationally renowned composer and musicologist and served as Artistic Director of the Music Department of La Biennale di Venezia from 2021 to 2024. Educated in Rome, Paris, Berlin, and New York, she has collaborated with major institutions and leading figures in contemporary music. Her works of musical theatre are regularly presented in major European and international theatres and festivals.
The Lucia Ronchetti Archive brings together the materials she considers most precious: documents and papers that trace her artistic and research career, with the aim of making them accessible to scholars and fostering new perspectives on the study of contemporary music and musical theatre. With this acquisition, the Historical Archive of La Biennale further strengthens its commitment to the preservation, enhancement, and public accessibility of fundamental cultural heritage related to the historyof contemporary arts.
This initiative forms part of La Biennale di Venezia’s broader programme for the enhancement of archival heritage, which includes, among others, Luca Ronconi Archive, Palazzo Grassi/Fiat Fonds (1984–2005), Luigi Nono Archive, Gian Piero Brunetta Archive, Tullio Kezich Archive, Sergio Asti Archive, and Sergio Fantoni Archive.
With its new headquarters at the Arsenale, currently underconstruction and scheduled to open in June 2026, the Historical Archive – International Research Centre for Contemporary Arts of La Biennale di Venezia thus reaffirms its mission as a living and open space, dedicated to promoting research, enhancing artists’ legacies, and ensuring their accessibility to scholars, students, and researchers.
