National and international calls for two new choreographic works
The new choreographies will premiere on the stage of Biennale Danza 2026. Deadline for applications: 20 October 2025.
International call for a new choreography
Starting today Monday 15 September through Monday 20 October, both the national call and the international call for two new choreographies, to premiere on the stages of Biennale Danza 2026, are online on the website of La Biennale di Venezia www.labiennale.org.
For the fifth consecutive year Biennale Danza allocates resources for the creations of the new generations, with two calls that invite Italian and foreign artists and dance companies to present original choreographic projects. With total freedom as to form – from solos to compositions for ensemble – the projects submitted on or before 20 October 2025, as required by the calls, will be selected by Wayne McGregor, the artistic Director of the Dance Department. The selected projects will premiere at the 20th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (17 July > 1 August) and will be supported by La Biennale di Venezia with a production grant of up to a maximum of 30,000 euro, which may be used autonomously or in collaboration with other production partners to contribute to the production of the new choreography. In addition to the production grant, La Biennale di Venezia will cover all the costs for staging the work’s premiere in Venice – from the artists’ fees to travel and lodging expenses and production specifications.
Projects selected in the past include: Fo:no by Diego Tortelli in 2022; Vanishing Place by Luna Cenere and Bogotà by Andrea Peña in 2023; Posguerra by Melisa Zulberti, Folklore Dynamics by Vidavé and There was still time by Miller de Nobili in 2024; A Good Man is Hard to Find by the British duo Bullyache, consisting of Courtney Deyn and Jacob Samuel, together with Sisifo felice by Philippe Kratz and Pablo Girolami with the Nuovo Balletto di Toscana.
