The Sala Web theatre

The Sala Web theatre of the Venice International Film Festival – organised with enduring success for the past 11 years by La Biennale di Venezia – this year presents 18 feature-length films and 12 short films (the latter may be viewed free of charge) from around the world online, to be streamed concurrently with the official premiere screenings of the films on the Lido, for a limited number of viewers.

These are important films, world premiere screenings, from the Official Selection of the 79th Venice International Film Festival (31 August – 10 September 2022) included in the Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Orizzonti Extra and Biennale College Cinema sections.

Short Films
The 12 short films, available free of charge worldwide, may be viewed from the website www.labiennale.org, with screenings hosted on behalf of the Venice Film Festival on the website operated by Festival Scope (www.festivalscope.com). The films in the line-up include four Italian short films: Manuale di cinematografia per dilettanti – Vol. I (20’) by Federico Di Corato, TRIA - del sentimento del tradire (17’) by Giulia Grandinetti, both from the Orizzonti – Short Films section, as well as In quanto a noi (5’), with the voice talent of Wim Wenders, and A guerra finita (5’), with the voice of Gino Strada, both by Simone Massi, Out of Competition.

Feature Films
The 18 feature-length films, limited to viewers within the territory of Italy, and selected from the Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Orizzonti Extra and Biennale College Cinema sections of the 79th Venice Film Festival, may be watched from the website www.labiennale.org, in screenings hosted on the website operated by MYmovies.it at the address www.mymovies.it/ondemand/biennalecinema/, on the Biennale Cinema Channel streaming platform.

The feature films available online include four Italian films. They are Gli ultimi giorni dell’umanità by enrico ghezzi and Alessandro Gagliardo and The Matchmaker by Benedetta Argentieri (Out of Competition), Notte fantasma by Fulvio Risuleo (Orizzonti Extra), as well as a film from the Biennale College Cinema, Come le tartarughe by Monica Dugo.

Also available, among the other films, is the documentary Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom by Evgeny Afineevsky, an instant movie about the war in Ukraine, which the director began to film immediately after February 24th, the day the war began, and the last posthumous film by the director and winner of the Golden Lion Kim Ki-duk, who passed away in 2020, Call of God.

The 18 feature films of the Sala Web theatre will now join the library of 35 films on the Biennale Channel Cinema streaming platform, which features, in collaboration with MYmovies, a significant selection of films to rediscover from the 2007 to 2020 editions of the Venice International Film Festival, films never before released in Italy.

A practical viewer’s guide

For the screenings of the short films worldwide, viewers must first register on www.festivalscope.com to view the selected film free of charge. Each title (in the original language version with subtitles) will be available in streaming starting at 6 pm (Italian time) on the day of the official premiere of the film on the Lido and through September 30th 2022, for a limited number of viewers.

To view the feature films within the territory of Italy, in the original language version with subtitles in Italian, viewers may purchase a one-month subscription for € 7.90, a three-month subscription for € 19.90, or a one-year subscription for € 70.00 at the Internet addresses www.labiennale.org and www.mymovies.it/ondemand/biennalecinema/ on the Biennale Cinema Channel streaming platform.
