Grenada
Echoes of Knowledge. Reawakening the National Library
Album
Description
Curator Carlo Ratti’s theme envisions intelligence as inclusive, imaginative, and sustainable. Grenada embraces this vision by dedicating its pavilion to reviving the Public Library and National Archives in St. George’s, closed since 2011 due to Hurricane Ivan’s damage. A symbol of Grenada’s knowledge and memory, the library awaits renewal. The pavilion’s project proposes solutions to restore this landmark, addressing heritage conservation amid climate challenges and exploring cultural infrastructure’s role in social progress. The curators led the design process starting from an extensive research phase that included input from local citizens, academics, and professionals. This collaborative approach helped to outline the optimal requirements for a library that is future-oriented yet rooted in Grenada’s context.
