Biennale Danza 2026: the video-installation Twenty Festivals of dance
On view from 17 July to 1 August in the Sala d’Armi E at Arsenale.
Biennale Danza 2026
The 20th International Festival of Contemporary Dance, titled TIME DOES NOT EXIST and directed by Wayne McGregor, kicks off on 17 July and continues until 1 August. The Festival will combine the scheduled performances with workshops, films, books, installations and meetings, to mark the occasion of its twentieth edition.
Twenty Festivals of dance
Biennale Danza was created as an autonomous department in 1998 and will trace its twenty festivals through the video-installation Life Lines, that was made in collaboration with La Biennale’s Historical Archive – International Centre for Research on the Contemporary Arts. Life Lines will be on view from 17 July until the end of the Festival in the Sala d’Armi E at Arsenale.

Furthermore, the Festival will share the thoughts, passions, experiences, and choices that have shaped its twenty editions in a meeting bringing together some of its past creators: Frédéric Flamand, Karole Armitage, Virgilio Sieni, Marie Chouinard, and current director Wayne McGregor will be at the Biennale Library in the Giardini on 20 July at 11:30 am, in conversation with journalists and essayists Sarah Crompton and Elisa Vaccarino.
