Davide Iodice was born in Naples in 1968. He trained in Directing at the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica “Silvio d’Amico” in Rome, under the mentorship of Andrea Camilleri. He co-founded the company libera mente, for which he served as Artistic Director, and is the former co-Artistic Director of the Centro di Ricerca Teatro Nuovo in Naples. He created and is now the Artistic Director of the SCUOLA ELEMENTARE DEL TEATRO – a people’s conservatoire for the performing arts. He also oversees art and social inclusion projects at the Trianon Viviani theatre. He has worked in various capacities with artists including Carmelo Bene, Leo De Berardinis, Carlo Cecchi and Roberto De Simone.
He has made – and continues to make – theatre in a variety of complex, marginalised spaces, from the Santa Maria della Pietà psychiatric hospital in Rome to Volterra prison, the Giudecca women’s prison, Nola prison, the City of Naples’ main homeless shelter, and the psychiatric ward of Naples’ Secondigliano prison. His teaching and theatre work have been produced and commissioned nationally and internationally in France, England, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia Herzegovina and Hungary. His theatre practice has been featured in national and international books and journals, and been the subject of several university and doctoral dissertations.
