Description

Writing as an act of rebellion is the driving force behind aka Jolly Roger, referring to the symbolic flag of the pirates. “What happens if the theatrical dispositif is hijacked by a galleon?” raises the question the author Bruna Bonanno, who continues: “aka Jolly Roger is a writing project for the live stage, oriented both within and beyond the Jolly Roger, the pirate flag—a transnational, transcultural, extra-territorial symbol under which communities fighting for freedom recognise themselves. In the shadow of a flag bearing a dancing skull, the text asks what needs to be said before carrying out a revolutionary act, and what conditions of possibility and thought must be set in motion within struggles… Navigating across seas and islands, under a flag that does not fulfil its function of outlawing and therefore does not delimit but continuously changes form, the dramaturgy experiments with a clandestine layout that presses and waits to move beyond the page and encounter all those bodies that, in disobedience, inhabit the stage space (only the stage space?)”.
