Description

Architecture of Transitions looks into how architecture can promote better relations between people, ones that ensure an equitable and respectful use of space. At the same time, the project asks how boundaries can be designed to encourage new bonds with non-human agents. From the perspective of a local South American context, the project also investigates the ways in which these types of envelopes are constructed. What materials are they made of? Where do these materials come from? Why is it that similar materials are often used across different buildings? How does the use of such common and readily available materials then affect their spatial identity? This project argues for envelopes as spaces that relate individuals to otherness, and seeks to further explore this threshold space and its different materialization.

Casa Scout Building. Envelopes are places where spatial qualities determine the type of social relations that are generated. They delimit the degrees of closeness and remoteness, the degrees of approximation between human and non-human beings.
