Synopsis

Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all collide, in the stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.

Director’s Statement

Pearl is the story of a young woman who desperately wanted a different life. A life more like the ones she saw in the movies. A life without tragedy, isolation, repression, and illness - One fulfilled by limitless opportunity, the glitz, and glamour, of showbiz, and most of all... Love. This film was birthed during a global pandemic, and as we return to cinemas together, my hope is that the communal theatrical experience will offer us all a temporary relief from madness. A return to a time when wondrous, childlike perceptions of the world might still be our own. No matter how demented they may be.
