Biennale College Musica 2024

The workshop is dedicated to young violinists, violists, cellists or new string quartet ensembles interested in the performance of string quartets by Salvatore Sciarrino, Helmut Lachenmann and Georg Friedrich Haas. The selected performers will present their interpretations during the Biennale Musica (September 26 - October 10,  2024). During the different stages of the workshops the participants will learn new instrumental techniques connected with the proposed scores. The first stage will be focused on the analysis of different scores for string quartet and the practice of the different performative aspects. Following stages will be dedicated to the rehearsals and production of the concert.

The Biennale College Musica team will be in contact with each performer throughout the whole process of creation of the concert (from March to September 2024) and will be available for suggestions and revisions.

Number of possible participants: up to a maximum of 4 (2 violinists, 1 violist, 1 cellist)
Nationality: the application is open to all nationalities
Age limit: +18 > 30 years (as of January 27, 2024)

Announcement of selected artists: by February 22, 2024
Project deadline:  September 10, 2024
Production phase: September-October 2024
Presentation of the new projects: during the Biennale Musica (September 26 - October 10,  2024)

Applicants must register by filling in the online form and submit, by the deadline of January 27, 2024:

· Detailed CV in English
· 1 or 2 recordings of classical and/or contemporary music pieces.

In case of application as a string quartet, each member will have to fill his/her own form and specify the name of the quartet in the appropriate field.

Candidate selection:
The selected performers will be chosen by the Artistic Director after close scrutiny of their CVs and documentation of artistic production.

Registration fee:
There are no fees for the application.
The selected musicians only will be required to pay a registration fee of € 80.00 (VAT included, non-refundable) to be paid exclusively by credit card following the announcement of their acceptance.

Travel and accommodation:
La Biennale di Venezia provides travel and accommodation for the participants.

Each participant will receive a fee for his/her performance of € 2,000 gross.

Only one project may be applied for.
Applications for more than one project will NOT be accepted and only the first application submitted will be considered.

La Biennale di Venezia reserves the right in any case to modify, cancel or interrupt the initiative described above, in that the announcement or the selection do not constitute a binding contract for the same, nor do they entail the right to the reimbursement of any expense other than those specified above.

The integral acceptance of the conditions of the Biennale College Musica Call makes the application eligible.
