Synopsis

15-year-old Holly calls her school to say she is staying home for the day. Soon after, a fire breaks out at the school, killing several students. With everyone touched by the tragedy, the community comes together, trying to heal.
Anna, a teacher, intrigued by Holly and her strange premonition, invites her to join the volunteering group she runs. Holly’s presence seems to bring peace of mind, warmth, and hope to those she encounters. But soon, people begin to seek out Holly and her cathartic energy, demanding more and more from the young girl.

Director’s Statement

Holly takes place in a community that was recently struck by a deep trauma. In this setting Holly appears, a character onto whom the community unconsciously projects all their needs and beliefs. For me the group dynamic was very important in this process. I wanted to create a schizophrenic filmic experience with the combination of grief and madness of the characters and situations, manifested by the rhythm of the storytelling. The film begins with a calm build-up, before plunging into pure chaos towards the end. On the one side the film has something very grounded but then there are moments when mystical elements emerge, and one starts doubting Holly’s special gift.
