Synopsis
VR_I is a dance piece by Cie Gilles Jobin and Artanim. Five spectators with VR headsets move inside a virtual space for a contemplative journey that questions our perception of reality. Blending art with technology, VR_I results from the encounter between Jobin and Artanim’s founders Caecilia Charbonnier and Sylvain Chagué. For the first time ever, a choreographer combines dance with immersive vr in a work that provides viewers with a unique sensory experience. The international cast features American composer Carla Scaletti, Belgian fashion designer Jean-Paul Lespagnard and dancers Victoria Chiu, Susana Panadés Diaz, Diya Naidu, Tidiani N’Diaye and Gilles Jobin.
Director’s Statement
VR_I combines dance with cutting-edge VR technology in a work that lets people inhabit full-body avatars. Immersed in a virtual environment, tracked by a motion capture system, participants can see their own bodies as an avatar. Equipped with VR headsets and on-board computer, they are free to move and interact with other users.
