Synopsis
These Sleepless Nights is a mixed reality installation that uses cutting edge spatial computing technology to allow visitors to listen, connect and engage in new ways with those on the frontline of America’s eviction crisis.
Director’s Statement
I am a child of refugee and immigrant parents who came to America for freedom and opportunities. We came with nothing and made a better life. While this American Dream exists for some, like my family, for a great many, it is far out of reach. The reasons for this are many, though the fact that America was built on stolen land and slave labour, is hard to ignore. It continues to be the festering wound, the original sins at its founding, that continue to plague it to this day. These Sleepless Nights is about this in some ways. Though it is really an opportunity to listen and understand the human side of this struggle, without judgment. Using cutting edge immersive technologies and design my hope is that there is a deeper connection to these issues and greater understanding that will help make the American Dream possible for all.
