Biennale Architettura 2021: August events

A double event with the Meetings on Architecture Expanded Programme (26-27 August). Award Ceremony of the 17th Architecture Exhibition (30 August).

Meetings on Architecture

The Meetings on Architecture Expanded Programme of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, titled How will we live together?, return with a double event. Curated by Hashim Sarkis, the Biennale Architettura 2021 enriches its programme with two new meetings that will be held in Venice on August 26th and 27th 2021 in the Sala delle Colonne at Ca’ Giustinian, the institutional headquarters of La Biennale di Venezia. Both events will also be live streamed on www.labiennale.org.

The programme:
26 August

Thursday 26 August from 3 pm to 5:30 pm
Sala delle Colonne, Ca’ Giustinian (San Marco 1364/a)

Partial screening of the film (How) Will We Live (Together)?

The project, presented by SENSORY ETHNOGRAPHY LABORATORY (S.E.L.)Verena Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor – at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, consists of an audio-visual architectural installation that addresses this year’s theme of the Biennale Architettura How will we live together? through the voices of intellectuals, activists and artists. The ecological, climate and political crisis afflicting the contemporary world is the starting point to imagine how we might live and die together, both peacefully and violently, among ourselves and with other species.

The screening of the video project will be followed by a discussion between the curator Hashim Sarkis and the philosopher Emanuele Coccia.

27 August

Friday 27 August from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm
Sala delle Colonne, Ca’ Giustinian (San Marco 1364/a)

The Symposium titled How Will We Play Together? investigates the role of sports in the configuration of the physical spaces in which nations meet, as exemplified in the urban projects and architectural works which hosted the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and will host the FIFA World Cup Qatar in Doha in 2022.

Each session will be introduced by Hashim Sarkis.

A single registration is valid for all three sessions:

  • Panel 1: 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Speakers: Christoph Lechner, Bernhard Hachleitner, Peter Artner

  • Panel 2: 3:50 pm – 4:50 pm

Speakers: Mohammed Al Atwan (Project Manager Ras Abu Aboud) for the Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, and for the Qatar Olympics and Sports Museums, Abdulla Y. Al Mulla (Direttore), Kevin Moore (Deputy Director Curatorial Affairs) and Trevor Smith (Sports Activation Gallery, curator)

  • Panel 3: 5:10 pm – 6:10 pm
  • Speakers: Alessandra Cianchetta, Sean Ahlquist, Simon Hartmann (HHF Architects), Tereza Kučerová (MOLO architects) and Matej Hajek (SKULL studio), Ifat Finkelmann & Deborah Pinto Fdeda

The Symposium How Will We Play Together? has been organized within the context of Sport Platform, the installation at the Central Pavilion of the Giardini that focuses on the architectural works and projects for the two mega-sporting events in 2021 and 2022, and of the 17th Exhibition section dedicated to How Will We Play Together? at Forte Marghera.
