Meetings on Architecture – Expanded Programme

The closing days of the Biennale Architettura 2021 include a rich programme of meetings and panels from 13-20 November, also available in live streaming.

There is still time up to Sunday 21st November to visit the Biennale Architettura 2021. The Meetings on Architecture - Expanded Programme will accompany visitors in the last days Exhibition with 5 dedicated days – 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 20th November 2021 – which will take place at the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale.

Announcement of the winners of the Global Holcim Awards 2021 and of the 33 finalist projects from all continents
The Holcim Awards are the world’s most significant competition for sustainable design and offer prize money of USD 2 million per cycle. The prizes will be handed-over by Hashim Sarkis (USA/Lebanon), Head of the Global Holcim Awards jury 2021, and jury members Marilyne Andersen (Switzerland), Maria Atkinson (Australia), Meisa Batayneh Maani (Jordan), Philippe Block (Switzerland), Angelo Bucci (Brazil), Loreta Castro Reguera (Mexico), Dirk E. Hebel (Germany), Reed Kroloff (USA), Jeannette Kuo (Switzerland), as well as Marc Angélil (Switzerland), Kate Ascher (USA), Harry Gugger (Switzerland), Enrique Norten (Mexico), Stuart Smith (UK), and Magali Anderson and Jan Jenisch representing the Executive Committee of Holcim, the sponsor of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction and the Holcim Awards competition.

Dimensions of sustainability: ecology, technology and culture
The possible responses to the current ecological and environmental crises constitute one of the fundamental axis of How will we live together? Sustainability has become an essential goal for every kind and scale of design. This Symposium expands the 17th International Architecture Exhibition content through a series of conversations exploring the different dimensions of sustainability in architecture: from the realms of aesthetics and philosophy of design, to those of technology, and urban and territorial design.

La Biennale thinks Venice
During the last decades Venice has encapsulated some key concerns affecting cities across the world, especially in issues as critical as preservation, resiliency towards climate change, and the demands imposed on local contexts by global service and tourism economies. The Symposium shows the responses the Biennale Architettura 2021 Participants gave to those questions in the spaces of the Venice archipelago and lagoon, and contrasts the different initiatives the city may adopt to address such concerns.

Looking forward: the education of the architect
How is architectural education responding to the many challenges that a rapidly changing world is putting in front of us? The Symposium Looking forward: the education of the architect advances the Biennale Architettura’s pedagogic mission through a series of dialogues on the most pressing questions shaping the future of architectural education.

How to attend the Meetings

The meetings are open to the public free of charge, with reservation required while seats last. Admission to the Biennale Architettura 2021 is not included. For further information and ticket service please consult our website www.labiennale.org.
At the entrance, body temperature will be measured and must be no greater than 37.5 °C to allow admission. Each visitor must present an EU Covid Certificate (Green Pass) or equivalent certificate that proves.
