
The Award Ceremony will take place on Saturday 20 May 2023 at Ca' Giustinian, headquarters of La Biennale di Venezia.
The Biennale Architettura 2023 will be held from Saturday 20 May to Sunday 26 November (pre-opening 18 and 19 May), curated by academic, educator and best-selling novelist Lesley Lokko, who has commented: “Architects have a unique opportunity to put forward ambitious and creative ideas that help us imagine a more equitable and optimistic future in common”.
Lesley Lokko is the founder of the African Futures Institute, established in Accra, Ghana, in 2020 as a postgrad school of architecture and public events platform. In 2015 she founded the Graduate School of Architecture in Johannesburg. She has taught in the UK, in the US, Europe, Australia and Africa. She is the recipient of a number of awards for contributions to architectural education.

The International Exhibition will be articulated between the Central Pavilion at the Giardini, the Arsenale, and Forte Marghera.
Divided in categories: Mnemonic looks at the relationship between memory and architecture; Food, Agriculture and Climate Change deepens the relationship between climate change, land practices and food production; Geography and Gender analyzes the relationship between gender, architecture and performance. Guests from the Future features 22 emerging practitioners of colour.
These three Special Participations are located at the Arsenale: filmmaker Amos Gitaï; architecture’s first poet laureate Rhael 'LionHeart' Cape, Hon FRIBA and photographer James Morris.
Participating Countries will be exhibited in the Pavilions at Giardini, at the Arsenale and in the city centre of Venice. Niger participates for the first time at the Biennale Architettura; Panama participates for the first time with its own Pavilion. The Holy See returns to the Biennale Architettura.
Exhibitions and initiatives promoted by non-profit national and international bodies and institutions, that take place in various locations in Venice.
